Funny birthday video example: grandparents in the booth

Two AI-generated grandparents, made with MigosAI from one family dinner photo cropped into two frames: Standard, 8 seconds, 1:1, lyrics topic "our 50th anniversary".

This one celebrates an anniversary rather than a birthday, and it shows why the format gets a laugh at a party: nobody expects their grandparents to rap. Change the topic to a birthday joke, like grandpa's famous twenty-minute birthday speech, and the AI writes the verse about that instead.

A funny birthday video they won't see coming

Birthday messages blur together: the same emoji, the same "hope it's a great one". A clip of the birthday person spitting bars next to their best friend does not. You add two photos, write the joke in the lyrics topic, maybe their legendary inability to parallel park, and the AI turns it into a short original rap with both faces animated.

It lands as a surprise because the birthday person never recorded a thing. Play it when the cake comes out, drop it in the family chat at midnight, or send it to someone celebrating far away. Use photos the people in them would be glad to see used; the cards below were made with AI-generated performers.

Two friends in party hats rapping at a studio mic, one holding a cupcake with a lit candle as confetti falls
  • AI-generated selfie of the first best friend, used as the leadAI-generated selfie of the second best friend

    Best friends from two selfies

Inputs: two separate selfies, one per friend. Settings: HD, 10 seconds, 9:16, lead on the left. No topic was set, so the verse is a general hype one.

  • AI-generated portrait of the mother, used as the leadAI-generated portrait of her adult son

    Mom and son, family-kitchen verse

Inputs: two portraits. Settings: HD, 10 seconds, 9:16, lyrics topic "mom's Sunday cooking".

How to make a funny birthday video in three steps

Get two photos and the birthday joke ready. A phone or computer browser and a Google sign-in do the rest.

  1. Pick the star and the sidekick

Upload a front-facing photo of the birthday person and one of a friend or relative. Or use one party photo and frame each face.

  2. Write the birthday joke

Put it in the lyrics topic in under 80 characters, like "Leo turns 40 and still can't whistle". Choose quality, length and format.

  3. Preview, render, surprise

Check the free booth photo, generate the video, and save the MP4 for the big reveal.

What you can change in the birthday surprise

Two faces are required. The rest decides how the joke lands.

  • Who is the star

Put the birthday person in the lead slot to give them the verse and the sharpest lip sync, or make them the second performer, reacting with ad-libs and gestures while a friend raps about them. The lead can stand left or right.

  • The joke

A lyrics topic under 80 characters points the verse at the right story. A note for each performer, under 120 characters, adds physical comedy, like "blows out imaginary candles".

  • Quality, length and format

Standard gives up to 720p at 1 credit per second, HD up to 1080p at 2 credits per second. Choose 5, 8 or 10 seconds: 9:16 for stories, 1:1 or 16:9 for a party screen, all at the same price.

  • The setting

Keep the orange studio, or take the background from the lead's photo, like the living room where every family birthday happens.

Four ways to send a personalized birthday video

  • The midnight group-chat drop

Be first in the chat when the date flips. A vertical clip beats a wall of cake emojis.

  • A party-screen reveal

Play a 16:9 version on the TV right before the candles, with the birthday person seeing it for the first time.

  • Long-distance birthdays

For a friend abroad or a grandparent across the country, a clip of the two of you on stage says more than a text.

  • Milestones and office birthdays

Turning 30, 50 or 80, or the coworker who insists nobody makes a fuss. Keep the joke kind and the clip short.

Is the funny birthday video free? What it costs

Trying it is free: each account gets 3 booth photos to preview the pair on stage, and a failed preview does not count. The finished video is paid in credits by length and quality, from 5 credits for 5 seconds on Standard and 8 credits for 8 seconds, up to 20 credits for 10 seconds in HD. For $9.90, the Duo Pack adds 40 credits that never expire, and a render that fails gives its credits back automatically. At checkout, our merchant of record (Waffo Pancake or Creem) resells the service and handles tax and invoices. View packs and monthly plans

Funny birthday video FAQ

Information checked October 3, 2026.

Does the birthday person have to record anything?

No. The video is built from two still photos, so it can stay a surprise until the party. The surprise is the video, not the photos: use pictures the person would be happy to see used, because you confirm you have permission for both before you create.

What makes it funny if I'm not a comedian?

The AI writes the rhymes; you supply the story. Specific details work best, like last year's burnt cake or a famous karaoke moment. Leave the topic empty and you get a general hype verse instead.

Can I put their name in it?

Yes. Add the name to the lyrics topic along with the joke, for example "Priya's 30th, queen of the snooze button". The whole topic has to stay under 80 characters.

How long is the video, and in what format?

5, 8 or 10 seconds, in 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9. It downloads as an MP4 with no watermark, ready for a chat, a story or a TV.

Can I make one for free?

The preview is free, with 3 booth photos per account. The video costs credits, from 5 credits for 5 seconds on Standard, and you see the total before you render.

How far ahead should I make it?

Give yourself at least half an hour. Rendering usually takes about 5–10 minutes, and a failed render refunds its credits so you can try again. The clip stays in My Videos for 30 days.
